The lower decks of the Battleship NORTH CAROLINA
are where most of the crew lived, ate, slept, and worked. Around
the major design elements of the three 16-inch turret barbettes
and the four engine rooms the other elements were fit like puzzle
pieces within the hull. Larger functional areas such as the Galley
and Mess Decks, Chief Petty Officers Messing and Berthing, Main
and Secondary Battery Plotting Rooms, the distilling plant and the
After Diesel were set in place, then other smaller elements. Berthing
spaces and storerooms took everything else.
