The
upper decks were where the primary operational control spaces such
as the Bridge, Combat Information Center, Weapons Control, and Anti-Aircraft
Control were located. The increasing height above water gave greater
visual and radar line-of-sight ranges which is why fire control
directors and the weapons control spaces and positions were located
here.
Also, in the upper decks were the spaces allocated
for the Battleship's commanding officer and an embarked admiral
as well a few selected senior officers.
