The Battleship has embarked on a series of restoration
projects designed to maintain this National Historic Landmark
well into the 21st Century. Because of the scope of work
involved for a few of the restoration projects, a statewide
fundraising campaign was undertaken in 1998. Operation
Shipshape, as the campaign was called, was extremely successful.
Just over $6.7 million was raised through a combination
of state, corporation and foundation, and individual contributions
including scouts and school children.
The success of the campaign allowed the Battleship Commission
to embark upon three near-term restoration projects:
