Up, Down, and All Around! See the Battleship like you never have before! Join us on Saturday, January 24th, for a unique, behind-the-scenes tour of un-restored areas of the Battleship NORTH CAROLINA. For four hours a knowledgeable tour guide will take small groups to explore areas of the Ship not on the normal tour route.
Included on this special tour: a special presentation in Combat Information Center; the half deck and the forward section of second deck where officers lived; the boatswain's locker where you can marvel at the equipment still sitting in it; the third deck, which is not open to the public; 5-inch gun ammunition handling room; the brig; storage areas still stocked with original items; engineering offices; radio II in full working condition; the passageway where the torpedo struck the hull in 1942; engine room #3 which you'll see differs from the restored one open to the public; and stunning views of historic downtown Wilmington from the top of the fire control tower. If you like photography, this tour is for you!
The tour will include climbing over knee-high hatches and going up and down narrow ladders, so be prepared. Wear comfortable, warm clothing and sturdy, rubber-soled shoes. Bring a camera, but no backpacks. The tour is designed for ages 12 and above. Choose between a morning or afternoon time slot, 8:30-12:30pm or 1:30-5:30pm. The price includes admission to the Battleship, so you can tour the rest of the ship on your own before or after the program.
