Lesson 1- Capital Campaign


Subject: Language Arts - Grade Level: 5


Objective

Students will create a sponsor recruitment letter and/or brochure to persuade companies, businesses, and community leaders to support the USS North Carolina Battleship Memorial monetarily through corporate and civic donations and fund drives, as well as providing supplies, equipment, computers, and additional support resources.

Materials

  • Battleship Website
  • Paper
  • Computer (word Processor)
  • Poster Board
  • Colored Pencils and Markers

Activities/Procedures

Students will write and create a persuasive sponsor recruitment letter and/or brochure format that exemplifies persuasive writing. Students will present their finished product to the class. Note: Students could think of possible corporate sponsors.

Assessment

Persuasive writing assessment and feedback from the class and teacher. Teacher evaluation score sheet and persuasive writing self-assessment checklist for students.
