Objective

As a component of Black History Month, student will write a letter to the chief of naval operations persuading him to change naval policy regarding roles black enlisted men must follow in the Navy.

Materials

• Battleship oral history transcripts produced by black enlisted men
• Battleship Website 

Activities/Procedures

Student will write a persuasive letter that expresses an opinion and convinces others to agree with that opinion.

Assessment

Persuasive writing assessment and feedback from the class and teacher.
