Subject: Language Arts - Grade Level: 5


Objective

Student will write a letter to his/her parents persuading them to let them join the navy as a 17-year-old after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.

Materials

  • Battleship oral history transcripts
  • Battleship NC Website

Activities/Procedures

Students will write a persuasive letter that expresses an opinion and convinces others to agree with that opinion. Persuasive letter must include introduction, body, and conclusion.

Assessment

Teacher evaluation score sheet and persuasive writing self-assessment checklist for students. Make copy of checklist.
