Lesson 3 - Converting Pounds and Ounces


Subject: Mathematics - Grade Level: 4,5


Objective

Student will use Covo Tested Formula recipe handouts from the Battleship North Carolina to add up the weight of ingredient columns in both pounds and ounces.

Material

  • Recipe handouts of pecan brownies
  • Corn muffins

Activities/Procedures

Teacher must delete sums in the column Finished Weight of Mix prior to passing out handouts. Students will derive at total weight of mixture in both pounds and ounces. This reviews the concepts of converting pounds to ounces and ounces to pounds.

Assessment

Teacher evaluates student answer sheet to determine if student calculated correctly pounds and ounces after adding up the weight of ingredients.
