Using your Senses and Memory


Subject: Language Arts/Social Studies - Grade Level: 4-8


Objective

Students after touring the Battleship NC, will employ the use of their senses and memory to describe in specific details what they saw, experienced, and learned about the Battleship during their tour.

Materials

  • Battleship NC Website
  • Personal tour of Battleship

Activities/Procedures

Student will write an informational report or narrative as a follow-up to their tour on the Battleship NC. They will utilize their senses and powers of observation by incorporating into their narrative (What the ship is made of:)

  1. How it is furnished
  2. What colors are used
  3. What are the textures
  4. What smells were noticed
  5. What sounds were heard
  6. Size of compartments and areas
  7. Ships design structure
  8. Imagination of what temperature was like in the engine room area, kitchen, etc..

Assessment

Teacher assessment and evaluation of informational report/narrative. Assessment of students ability to utilize and incorporate their senses and observational power into their report in a descriptive way.
