The Battleship NORTH CAROLINA is a powerful symbol of our gratitude and pride for those who served in World War II and for all who serve in our nation’s armed forces and their families. It is our state’s memorial to the more than 11,000 North Carolinians who died during World War II. And our Battleship is an economic engine for tourism, jobs, and the economy, attracting more than 200,000 visitors each year.

The Battleship is self-supporting. No local, state or federal tax dollars support its operation or administration. It relies on admissions to the Ship, sales in the Ship’s Store, rentals, investments and donations.

Your generosity makes a difference in keeping the Showboat shipshape.

Battleship Generations Campaign

The Battleship seeks the support of individuals, corporations, foundations, and organizations statewide and nationally to fund its critical repair needs, educational mission and preservation for future generations through the Generations Campaign. Needs include

Living with Water. The Battleship site now experiences sunny-day flooding during most high tides. The Living with Water project aims to preserve the Ship experience by restoring more than 800 feet of shoreline and creating 2 acres of wetlands to reduce the impact of future storms, coastal storm surges, tidal floods and stormwater run-off. Support the Battleship in creating resilience to these weather events, while enhancing fish and wildlife habitats.

Educate our Youth. For nearly 60 years, the Battleship has worked to meet its core educational mission. Qualified educators develop and deliver exciting STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) programs meeting state and national curriculum requirements in addition to continuing the Ship’s role in teaching the lessons of history and inspiring civic duty to future generations. Support the ability of public-, private- and home-school students to participate in education programs at the Battleship and to enjoy hot lunches during their field trips to the Ship.
