Coastal Climate Science and Engineering Expo
April 30 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pmFree
For the 2022 North Carolina Science Festival, UNCW MarineQuest and Battleship North Carolina are joining forces to co-host the Coastal Climate Science and Engineering Expo.
Southeastern North Carolina has experienced the severe impacts of climate change over the past few years, from inland flooding and tornadoes to coastal hurricanes and sea level rise. Many of the rural and underserved communities were particularly hard hit. The Expo will provide opportunities for citizens in these communities and our region of the state to learn about their coastal location, the science of climate change and ways in which scientists and engineers are mitigating its impact, and what communities can do to build resiliency. The Expo itself will be held along the bank of the Cape Fear River in Wilmington, a site that perfectly illustrates the challenges of climate change because of the flooding it experiences.
The Expo will take place outdoors at Battleship Park. Community partners will host interactive, family-friendly stations that showcase what their organizations are doing to study the forces of climate change, evaluate their impacts on our coastal communities, and ultimately offer solutions to help build resiliency.
RAIN PLAN: Light rain or shine. Check here day before event for foul weather cancellation.
